SUCCESS STORIES
1. Survivor of Kidnap and Molestation:
Mrs. Mary (Name changed) is a poor widow with four children. Her eldest daughter 9 years old was kidnapped and molested by an unknown auto driver on 7th October 2014. Through the women helpline number, AWCA could extend help to her to lodge an FIR and to let her receive financial assistance of Rs. 120000/- (One Lakh twenty thousand) from “financial assistance and support services to victims of rape: A scheme for restorative justice” under social welfare department.
AWCA created for her a suitable space in the market where she could sell vegetables using the financial assistance as capital. She earns Rs. 250 – 350/- per day. This earning could help her support better schooling for her daughter and other siblings and all other basic needs of her family.

2. Survivor of Sexual Violence:
Ms. Lucy’s (Name changed) mother died when she was a child. She lived with her father and step mother. On the 9th August 2012, she was raped by her drunken father. The incident was reported to AWCA wherein AWCA extended all possible help to her to get justice and received financial assistance of Rs. 45000/- (Forty five thousand) from “financial assistance and support services to victims of rape: A scheme for restorative justice” under social welfare department. With the financial support, Lucy has been running a tailoring shop to support herself.

3. Disability to Ability:
Ms. Kim (27 years) got paralysed (from the waist) since her childhood. She lives with her aged widowed mother at Muallum village, Singngat Sub-division of Churachandpur district. Her mother supported her by cutting trees in the forest and selling them.
In the year 2014, AWCA identify her condition and brought her to its vocational training centre where 6 (Six) months tailoring course was organised. At first she was ashamed and reluctant to participate in the training but after some months, she was changed positively. She gained more confident and could develop her skill like any other trainees. After the training course, AWCA provided a hand sewing machine which was donated by 1 (one) AWCA supporter, Mr. Ton Trooster from Netherland.
AWCA visited her in 2016 and found that Kim lived has been changed a lot. She earns Rs. 150 – 200/- on an average per day from sewing clothes. Not only being able to get her personal needs, she could help her aged old mother in contributing to the households needs.
The tailoring training provided by AWCA not only helps Kim and her mother but also help her villagers and neighboring villagers to get an easier access to sewing clothes as Kim is the only person who is trained in this skill in her area.
