AWCA is founded in 1986 with an aim to address the issues relating to women and children. The society engages in all forms of activities and takes up project for the overall empowerment of women and girls. AWCA engages in 10 major areas : Gender Issues, Violence on women and children , Awareness Training ,Lobby and  Advocacy , Skill Development Training, Preservation of Natural resources, Education for children living in difficult circumstances, Land based farming, Human Rights, Relief and Rehabilitation etc. Today, AWCA has been networking with other groups of women at different levels in combating women and children issues in Manipur especially in the rural areas. With 50 Primary members, 8(eight) Management Committee Members, 8(Eight) Advisers/consultants with 34 staff. AWCA is operating in Churachandpur district, Manipur State in India.

Mission

 

AWCA works to give love and hope to the destitute, the desperate women and children of the society for their holistic development. It aims to motivate and work for women empowerment and uplifting of children by providing various awareness and capacity building programs, provision of their psycho-social and physical needs, lobbying and advocacy, research and study.

 

 


 

Objectives

 

  • To organize capacity building training and awareness programs, hold conferences, demonstrations, exhibitions, meetings, lectures, discussions and competitions on issues and problems related to various issues affecting the lives of the underprivileged especially women and children for public awareness and sensitization.
  • To provide shelters, foods, clothing, education and other physical and psycho-social needs to the women and children affected and oppressed by poverty, HIV/AIDS , drugs and alcohols ,conflicts, epidemics, natural calamities and all forms of  social abuse with provision of counselling for their all-round development.
  • To organize Legal awareness on the followings :
    To create legal awareness and impart knowledge to both men and women about the basic legal rights of women and issues   related to women on relief, rehabilitation and Government redressal mechanisms.
    –  To empower and encourage   women to fight for their legal rights and educate them   about the various systems and functioning of the judicial system, filing FIR in police stations.
    –  To engage and involve state and other important mechanisms, implementing bodies such as district legal services, the women and human rights Commissions and legal bodies in the organization activities.
  • To empower women for equal participation with men in various decision making bodies at the traditional, local and state governance.
  • To advocate and promote peace, gender equality, women rights, and domestic violence act.
  • To advocate, lobby and rehabilitate women and girls victims of all forms of violence.
  • To provide various skill development training for women including their children and husbands, to help in generating more income of their family.
  • To educate and aware women on various issues related to land based farming and encourage women in agriculture related activities.
  • To aware women and children on the effects of climate change.
  • To deal with child’s rights and child protection issues.

  • To increase the health status of women and children.
  • To construct libraries, wayside amenities, recreational centres, parks and other facilities for the benefit of the society.
  • To take up any kinds of developmental works for the welfare of women and children.
  • To open vocational training centres and provide trainings on handloom and handicrafts and other Information technology to enhance women and children to be self-supportive.
  • Represent and lobby for the poor particularly, women, children and non-governmental organizations in the areas of its operation for creating favourable policy environment.
  • To protect natural environment, land and cultural heritage and the rights of the Indigenous people and Indigenous women.
  • To conduct research and study of any types for improving awareness and promotion of livelihood and micro-enterprises related activities for the poor.
  • To take loans, grants and subsidies from government, donor agencies, individuals and corporate/business groups and to provide loans, grants and subsidies to individuals, community groups and self-help groups to achieve the objectives of Society.
  • To network, collaborate and partner with various local, state, national or international government or non-government agencies for the betterment of the organization and for the welfare of the people especially women and children.
  • To do all such other lawful acts, deeds or things either alone or in conjunction with other organizations as are incidental or ancillary or conductive to the attainment of any of the vision, mission and objectives of the society.
