INAUGURATION OF LEGAL AID CLINIC AT JACINTHA REHOBOTH, S. MUNHOIH VILLAGE

LEGAL AID CLINIC INAUGURATION

On the 22nd February 2019, Action for Women and Child Advancement held an inauguration program of the newly set up Legal Aid Clinic in S. Munhoi Village, Singngat TD. The Legal Aid Clinic of S. Munhoi was inaugurated as one of the outreach centres of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Churachandpur.

A short program was held which began with Ms Kimneinieng Shoute, Chairperson District legal Service,  District Judge of the Sessions Court Churachandpur Manipur inaugurated the clinic by marking it with the ribbon cutting.

Ms Grace, Secretary AWCA delivered the welcome address. She shared about the activities and outreach programs of AWCA in the past. AWCA has contributed immensely in the field of providing legal aid assistance to women and child victims of trafficking, raps, domestic violence , families affected by displacement due to development projects, etc. Grace expressed her sincere gratitude to the DLSA for having recognised AWCA’s contribution to society. AWCA hope that the Legal Aid Clinic will be of great relief and assistance to the people living in the interior villages of Churachandpur. The Legal Aid Clinic will be an encouragement to AWCA to go further and contribute to a larger extend in building up its already existing work in the field of legal aid.

Ms Chinglun, Advocate under DLSA Churachandpur gave an introduction of the Legal Aid Clinic and Duties of Para Legal Volunteers (PLV) . She stressed on the roles and the process of case recording and data maintainence  required by a PLV. It was followed by discussion among the PLVs and the resource persons. The discussions were centered around demarcated  jurisdictions for the PLVs. PLVs are bound to provide legal assistance wherever they are and in case of geographic constraints, they can refer the case to the Legal Aid Clinic in the vicinity of the case.
